Leaving a Legacy
St Edmund’s parish is self-funded. There are not big pots of diocesan funds for us to draw upon and we are responsible not only for the ongoing mission of the parish - celebrating liturgies, providing pastoral care and high quality catechesis, supporting our local school, hospital and a nearby prison - but we are also stewards of two historic and listed buildings.
Our primary source of income is from the Sunday collections taken during Mass and we publish each week in our newsletter how much is given on the collection plate as well as how much is donated via standing orders. For all of this we are so grateful
The parish also receives donations (stipends and stole fees) for Masses offered, baptisms, weddings and funerals celebrated here, chaplaincy work in the hospital, and rental for private use of our crypt.
We also rely on the generosity of people remembering us in their will and are incredibly grateful whether these legacies to the parish are large or small. Parishioners often remember their parish in their wills as a final way of saying thank-you for the pastoral care and support they have received during their life-time and to ensure that those following afterwards will continue to have a Catholic Church and parish of which to be a part.
